What do I need to collect a Western Union transfer?

To collect a Western Union transfer, the receiver must provide the MTCN, the senderโ€™s details, and valid identification. For Indian nationals a PAN Card, address proof, and a photograph are required. For foreign nationals, a valid passport, visa, and a photograph must be provided, along with any additional information required for verification.

How long does it take to receive money?

If the money is ready for payout, the customer can present the MTCN number along with valid ID proof, and the transaction will be processed within a few minutes.

Is there a fee for collecting money?

There are no fees or charges for collecting the money, as all transfer charges are paid by the sender.

Can someone else collect on my behalf?

For security and regulatory reasons, funds are released only to the named beneficiary upon valid identification.

Are there any limits on cash payouts?

As per RBI guidelines, payments above โ‚น50000 are made through a crossed cheque, demand draft, or direct credit to the receiverโ€™s bank account, for which a cancelled cheque is required to confirm the account details. On exceptional basis, and subject to due diligence by the agent, this requirement may be waived for foreign nationals holding valid tourist visa.

Are there any limits on the number or value of transactions?

As per regulatory guidelines, an individual can receive a maximum of 30 remittances in a calendar year (Jan - Dec). In addition, each transaction must not exceed the INR equivalent of USD 2,500 per payout.

What is permitted purpose of remittance?

Purpose of Remittance: Only for personal use or family maintenance. Prohibited Uses: Business or trade activities, Investments, Property purchase, Commercial activities, Donations to charitable institutions or trusts.

Are customers allowed to send money through this service?

As per the guidelines of the Money Transfer Service Scheme (MTSS) issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), customers in India are permitted only to receive funds. Sending money, whether domestically or internationally, is not allowed through this service.

Who are eligible to receive funds under this service?

Only individuals aged 18 years or above are eligible to receive funds under this service. Entities such as firms, companies, trusts, societies, and any other non-individual organizations are not permitted to receive remittances.
