India-UAE: A Major NRI Corridor

The UAE is one of the largest destinations for Indian workers and families, especially from Tamil Nadu. Regular family remittances to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah are one of the most common uses of LRS.

AED and USD Transfers

UAE banks accept incoming transfers in both AED (UAE dirham) and USD. We handle both currencies. We will advise which gives your recipient better value at current rates.

IBAN Required for UAE

UAE bank transfers require an IBAN (International Bank Account Number). An IBAN in the UAE is 23 characters long and starts with 'AE'. Ask your recipient to share their IBAN from their bank statement or app.

Arrives in 1-3 Business Days

Most SWIFT transfers to UAE bank accounts are credited within 1 to 3 business days. The UAE has a well-connected banking infrastructure, and many transfers land within 24 to 48 hours.

LRS Compliant

All UAE transfers are processed under RBI's LRS with Form A2 documentation. The annual limit is USD 250,000 per person across all purposes. From April 2026, no TCS applies below Rs. 10 lakh per year.

Minimal Paperwork for Family Transfers

For family maintenance remittances, documentation is straightforward. Passport, PAN card, Form A2, and a declaration of your relationship with the recipient. No lengthy approvals.

Common Questions

Do I need an IBAN to send money to the UAE?

Yes. The UAE banking system requires an IBAN for all incoming international wire transfers. Without it, the transfer may be delayed, returned, or incur additional charges. A UAE IBAN is 23 characters long and begins with 'AE' followed by two check digits and the account number. Your recipient can find their IBAN in their UAE bank statement, mobile banking app, or by contacting their bank directly.

How long does a money transfer to the UAE take from India?

SWIFT transfers to UAE bank accounts typically arrive within 1 to 3 business days from the date of initiating the transfer in India. Many transfers land within 24 to 48 hours, especially to major UAE banks like Emirates NBD, ADCB, or FAB. Transfers made on Fridays or during UAE or Indian public holidays may take a day longer due to banking closures in either country.

Is TCS applicable on money sent to the UAE?

From April 2026, TCS applies only if your total LRS remittances in a financial year exceed Rs. 10 lakh. Below that threshold, no TCS is deducted. Above Rs. 10 lakh, 5% TCS applies for general purposes like family maintenance or gifts. TCS is not a penalty. It is credited to your Form 26AS and can be adjusted against your income tax liability or claimed as a refund when filing your returns.

Should I transfer in AED or USD to the UAE?

Both are accepted by UAE banks. Sending in AED means the recipient gets the exact amount in their local currency without any further conversion. Sending in USD may result in a small AED conversion by the recipient's bank, which could add a minor charge. We will look at the current AED and USD rates and advise which option gives your recipient the most value on the day of the transfer.

What documents are needed for a family maintenance transfer to the UAE?

You need your passport, PAN card, and a completed Form A2. For family maintenance, a self-declaration stating your relationship with the recipient (spouse, parent, sibling, child) is typically sufficient. For larger amounts or repeated transfers, some additional documentation confirming the relationship may be requested by the compliance process. We guide you through exactly what is needed based on the amount and frequency.

How much can I send to the UAE in one financial year?

Under LRS, a resident Indian can remit up to USD 250,000 per financial year (April to March) to the UAE or any other permitted country. This limit is cumulative across all purposes. If you have already used part of your LRS limit during the year for travel or other remittances, the balance applies toward your UAE transfers.
