Australian bank transfers require a BSB (Bank-State-Branch) code, a 6-digit number that identifies the bank and branch, plus the account number. You will also need the bank's SWIFT/BIC code for international transfers.

Common Questions

What bank details do I need to send money to an Australian bank account?

For an international wire transfer to Australia, you need the recipient's full name, their BSB (Bank-State-Branch) code (6 digits identifying the bank and branch), their account number, and the bank's SWIFT/BIC code. Some Australian banks also use an IBAN, though it is less common there than in Europe or the UAE. Double-check these details with your recipient before visiting us, as incorrect BSB codes can result in failed transfers.

How long does a wire transfer to Australia take from India?

SWIFT transfers from India to Australian banks typically take 2 to 3 business days. Transfers to the four major Australian banks, Commonwealth Bank (CBA), ANZ, NAB, and Westpac, tend to process efficiently. However, if the transfer involves an intermediary bank or is sent on a Friday (given the time difference), it may take until the following week to fully credit.

Does Australia require a GIC like Canada for student visa financial proof?

No. Unlike Canada, Australia does not have a GIC requirement for student visas. Instead, the Australian student visa (subclass 500) requires you to demonstrate financial capacity, which can be shown through bank statements, a scholarship letter, or proof of a sponsor's financial capacity. Some students choose to transfer funds to an Australian bank account opened before or after arrival as part of this financial evidence. We can assist with the transfer when you are ready.

What documents are needed for an education remittance to Australia?

You need your passport, PAN card, and Form A2 (we fill this together). For tuition payments to an Australian university: the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) issued by the university, and the university's fee invoice showing the amount due in AUD. For transfers to a student's personal Australian bank account, a self-declaration of relationship or purpose is usually sufficient.

Is TCS applicable on AUD transfers to Australia for education?

From April 2026, TCS of 2% applies on education remittances above Rs. 10 lakh per financial year if sent directly to a recognised foreign educational institution. For transfers to a student's personal bank account, 5% TCS applies above Rs. 10 lakh. TCS is not a final tax outgo. It is reflected in Form 26AS and can be adjusted against your income tax return.

Can I send money to Australia for my child's living expenses?

Yes. Maintenance of close relatives abroad is a permitted LRS purpose. You can send regular transfers to cover rent, groceries, transport, and other living expenses for a child or family member in Australia. The documentation needed is your passport, PAN, Form A2, and a declaration stating the relationship. There is no restriction on how frequently you transfer, as long as the cumulative amount stays within the USD 250,000 annual LRS limit.
