Student Remittances to Europe

Germany, France, and the Netherlands are popular study destinations for Indian students, with many universities offering programs at low or zero tuition. We process education and living expense transfers with full LRS documentation.

IBAN is Essential for Europe

All European bank transfers require an IBAN (International Bank Account Number). European IBANs range from 15 to 34 characters depending on the country. Always get the IBAN from your recipient before initiating the transfer.

Blocked Account for Germany

Indian students applying for a German student visa must deposit EUR 11,904 into a blocked account (Sperrkonto). We facilitate this transfer with the correct documentation required by blocked account providers.

SWIFT in 1-3 Business Days

EUR transfers to European banks typically arrive in 1 to 3 business days. Germany, Netherlands, and France tend to process faster due to strong banking connectivity with India.

LRS Compliant

All European remittances are processed under RBI's LRS with Form A2. Annual limit is USD 250,000 per person. From April 2026, no TCS below Rs. 10 lakh per year.

Common Questions

What is a blocked account and do I need one for a German student visa?

A blocked account (Sperrkonto) is a special type of bank account required by the German embassy as financial proof for a student visa application. You must deposit EUR 11,904 (the 2024 requirement; verify the latest amount before applying) into the account before your visa interview. The funds are blocked and released to you in monthly instalments of approximately EUR 992 after you arrive in Germany. Providers commonly used by Indian students include Expatrio, Fintiba, and Deutsche Bank. Once you set up the account with a provider, they give you the IBAN and SWIFT code to send the funds from India. We handle this transfer.

Do I need an IBAN to send money to any European country?

Yes. IBAN is mandatory for all wire transfers within Europe and for international transfers to European banks. The IBAN format varies by country: German IBANs start with 'DE' and are 22 characters; French IBANs start with 'FR' and are 27 characters; Dutch IBANs start with 'NL' and are 18 characters. Always get the IBAN (not just an account number) from your recipient or institution before visiting us, as the transfer cannot proceed without it.

How long does a EUR wire transfer to Europe take from India?

SWIFT transfers from India to European bank accounts typically arrive in 1 to 3 business days. Germany, France, and the Netherlands tend to process faster. Eastern European countries and smaller banks may take up to 4 business days. Since European banks do not operate on weekends, transfers initiated on Thursdays or Fridays in India may not be credited until the following Monday or Tuesday in Europe.

What documents do I need for a student visa financial remittance to Europe?

You need your passport, PAN card, and Form A2 (we fill this together). For a blocked account transfer: the setup confirmation from your Sperrkonto provider, including the IBAN and SWIFT details. For direct university tuition: the university's offer or admission letter and the tuition fee invoice. For living expense maintenance: a self-declaration of relationship with the recipient.

Can I send money to multiple European countries in the same year?

Yes. LRS does not restrict you to one country. You can send money to Germany for a blocked account, to France for tuition, and to the Netherlands for a family member, all within the same financial year. What matters is that the total amount across all remittances stays within the USD 250,000 annual LRS limit.

Is TCS applicable on EUR transfers to Europe?

From April 2026, TCS of 2% applies on education remittances above Rs. 10 lakh per financial year if sent directly to a recognised foreign institution (such as a university or a blocked account provider for student visa purposes). For transfers to an individual's personal European bank account, the 5% TCS rate applies above Rs. 10 lakh. TCS is adjustable against your income tax liability and can be claimed as a refund when filing returns.
