About Swiss Franc Exchange at Scope Forex

Exchange Swiss Francs (CHF) in Chennai at competitive market rates. Trusted services for your Alpine vacation or European business tour.

The Swiss Franc is issued by the Swiss National Bank and is considered one of the world's safest-haven currencies, often strengthening during global market stress. Notes circulate in CHF 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 1000 denominations and uniquely use a vertical orientation, the only major world currency to do so. The current ninth series (2016-2019) features themes of Swiss creativity and is widely regarded as one of the most advanced banknote security designs globally. The eighth series was demonetised in April 2021 and is no longer legal tender (though SNB will still redeem at face value indefinitely). INR/CHF has typically traded β‚Ή92-β‚Ή98 through 2024-2025, with periodic spikes during global risk-off episodes.

Who Needs Swiss Franc in Chennai?

Switzerland is a lower-volume but higher-spend destination for Chennai. Business travellers to Zurich and Geneva typically need CHF 1,500-CHF 3,000 in cash plus a forex card, particularly those in private banking, pharma (Roche, Novartis), commodities trading and watch manufacturing. Tourists doing the Zermatt-Interlaken-Lucerne-Zurich circuit usually carry CHF 2,000-CHF 4,000 for Alpine train passes, mountain restaurants and Swiss watches/chocolate. Students at ETH Zurich, EPFL Lausanne and the Geneva graduate institutes typically buy CHF 4,000-CHF 7,000 for the first-month deposit and accommodation top-up; Switzerland has notably high cost of living, so the cash float is larger than for other European destinations.

CHF Exchange FAQs

Everything you need to know about buying and selling Swiss Franc in Chennai

You can exchange Swiss Franc (CHF) at Scope Forex, an RBI-licensed full-fledged money changer (FFMC) on Poonamallee High Road in Nerkundram, near Titan World and opposite Canara Bank. It is a short drive from Mogappair, Anna Nagar, Aminjikarai, Koyambedu, and Porur. Bring your passport for any foreign-currency transaction, and your PAN card for amounts above INR 50,000. Confirm the day's CHF rate on WhatsApp at +91 93811 11767 before you visit, and the quote holds for 60 minutes.

Your Passport is the primary document for a foreign-currency transaction. For amounts above the equivalent of USD 3,000, or for outward remittance purposes, you will also need your confirmed air ticket for travel-purpose forex. PAN Card is required for all transactions above INR 50,000 as per RBI guidelines. A visa is not required to buy the currency itself; carry it only if your own travel needs it.

It's a deliberate Swiss National Bank design choice that started with the ninth series in 2016. The vertical format makes the bills harder to counterfeit (fewer existing high-quality counterfeiters work in this orientation) and easier to read denominations at a glance. The notes remain fully horizontal-friendly in wallets and are accepted exactly as you'd expect any banknote. Swiss merchants and ATMs are entirely accustomed to the format.

Unfortunately the Swiss National Bank withdrew legal-tender status from the eighth series on 30 April 2021. They can no longer be used commercially in Switzerland. The good news: the SNB will redeem eighth-series notes at face value indefinitely at any SNB branch or via mail-in, but we cannot exchange them in Chennai. If you have any, your best path is to contact the SNB directly during a future trip or via their mail-in form.

Use CHF. Switzerland is in the Schengen Area but not the Eurozone, so Swiss Francs are the official and dominant currency. Some tourist-oriented businesses near borders (especially in Basel, Zurich Airport, and parts of Geneva) will accept Euros, but at very poor rates with change returned in CHF anyway. For an authentic Swiss trip, carry CHF. Most ATMs across Switzerland also dispense CHF, so topping up from a forex card after arrival is straightforward.
